{ K-drama } Dramas I've Finished Recently: Kill Me Heal Me, Liar Game, Heart to Heart, Angry Mom, Fated to Love You

Oooooh snap, it's been a while since I did a K-drama update. Once my break after the Spring semester came, I started binging on dramas really hard, so I've actually started quite a lot, but I just wanna talk about some dramas I've completed watching recently.

Alrighty, let's get started!

1. Kill Me Heal Me starring Hwang Jung Eum and Ji Sung

This drama was a good pick-me-up from the sadness of finishing the awesome Healer with Ji Chang Wook. Although the beginning, with all the English and 3x year old Ji Sung playing a high schooler, there was quite a lot of cringing, the plot was really interesting. The whole psychological abnormality thing has really been picking up in Kdrama recently. Anyhow, I've talked about this drama in a recent post so I won't go on too much about it.

The acting in this drama is fantastic - Ji Sung is fantastic. The chemistry between the main couple is great, and so is the relationship between Hwang Jung Eum and Park Seo Joon. The story and the pace are good and keep you interested throughout the whole drama. All in all, I'd definitely recommend this to the average K-drama watcher, unless you're extremely picky about the dramas you watch having to be realisitc/fact-based etc. etc. I definitely enjoyed it and I think this drama appeals/appealed to a big group of Kdrama fans.

P.S. Ji Sung as Yona unnie!!! Hahahaha, he's awesome.

2. Liar Game starring Kim So Eun, Lee Sang Yoon, Shin Sung Rok

I decided to watch this because a couple of my friends recommended it to me. Apparently it's a Korean remake of a Japanese drama. Oh I also decided to just watch it because it's only 12 episodes. This drama was quite fun. It's intense, plays with mind games/logic and full of mindblowing moments. The acting is on point; Lee Sang Yoon didn't really do anything for me in Angel Eyes but he nailed his role in this one, his character is super badass, and comes off as extremely attractive. Shin Sung Rok is super good; I was really frightened and impressed by his acting in You Who Came From the Stars, so he's already a familiar face. This is another kind of psycho role that he plays very well. Kim So Eun's character isn't very interesting, but she did a good job playing her part. Definitely recommend this one for those of you who like thrillers and logic/mind games.

3. Heart to Heart starring Choi Kang Hee and  Chun Jung Myung.

Honestly I decided to watch this one because I wanted to see Sohee (of Wondergirls fame) act, and I read some articles about the positive reactions to her casting and acting. This is a cute, pretty light hearted one about a girl who's face is always super red and is scared of being out in public. Another one that kind of revolves around psychological problems. Choi Kang Hee does a good job portraying this role and her chemistry with Chun Jung Myung was quite cute, I think they work together quite well. Not a bad drama to watch if you're bored, but definitely not something that has a place on my "MUST WATCH" K-drama list. Sohee is Chun Jung Myung's little sister and she was adorable! I think she did pretty well, hope to see her in more dramas in the future.

Side note: the location of her house is so cute! With those little blocks/steps in the river :3

4. Angry Mom starring Kim Hee Sun, Kim Yoo Jung and Ji Hyun Woo.

I read some good comments about this drama on Netizenbuzz, which I frequent multiple times every day, and this drama did not disappoint. I expected it to be comical and light-hearted due to the ridiculous nature of the plot, but this drama is actually very dark and directly addresses critical issues in Korea's education system (maybe all education systems in general), albeit being completely fictional.
This drama follows a mom who disguises herself as a high school student in order to protect her daughter from bullies after not seeing any results or protective action from school administration. Nevertheless, many funny situations arise due to Kim Hee Sun's presence at school, which provides some very necessary and appreciated (in my opinion) comic relief to the otherwise depressing and gritty plot. This drama was a nice break from the typical K-drama love stories and it was interesting from beginning to end. Although some parts of the story could have been delivered better, the overall drama was a good watch. Kim Hee Sun is fantastic and Kim Yoo Jung is a very talented and beautiful blooming young actress.
I enjoyed the cute little minor storylines with Kim Yoo Jung & Baro, Kim Hee Sun & Go Bok Dong and the homeroom teacher, Ji Hyun Woo bonding with Kim Hee Sun and her best friend to overcome the struggle of exposing all the dirt hidden behind the seemingly innocent school system.
Overall a good drama for those of you who want to watch something a little different from the typical lovey-dovey K-dramas and appreciate some societal criticism from a work of fiction.

This was also my first time seeing actor Ji Soo, who played Go Bok Dong, and he was amazing! I hope to see him in more future dramas :)

5. Fated to Love You starring Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara

Lastly is Fated to Love You (You Are My Destiny), which is a Korean remake of the popular Taiwanese drama. Personally I never watched the Taiwanese version, and after finishing this Korean one, I don't know if I ever will, but this drama was alright. Beyond the ridiculous plot chok-full of every single Asian drama stereotype you can think of, Jang Hyuk and Jang Nara were both fantastic! Their acting made the drama fun to watch, even with the crazy storyline and stereotypical characters (average, unremarkable female lead, rich and handsome male lead). Although I do think this drama was a bit too long (near the end it just felt like it was dragging along - 16 or 18 eps would have been plenty instead of the actual 20), it doesn't affect my positive feelings for this drama much. This drama is for those who want to watch some awesome actors in a lovey-dovey K-drama with a stereotypical plot.

Side note: Jang Hyuk's laugh is so ridiculous but addictive, lol! Now that I'm finished watching this drama, I kind of miss hearing it although it was weird at first.
