{ K-pop } Spring 2015 Girl Group Crushing!!!

HELLO my dear blog! It's been too too long.

There's been a lot of good music from girl groups being released this spring and I wanted to do a post to show some love to all the awesome female K-pop groups as of late. Here goes! (in no particular order...)

1. Red Velvet - Ice Cream Cake

Ahhh!! This song is so freaking cute and catchy. I like Red Velvet's unique image because it's not quite "cutesy/innocent" but it's not "sexy" either. I hate this dichotomy that exists within K-pop girl groups. It's such a limiting way to think about them. I much prefer girl groups with a more unique sound and brand.

2. Red Velvet - Automatic

This is Red Velvet's other title song this time around, it's suuuper good. It's awesome how they can do an upbeat song and also a smooth R&B one. I hear that's what their group name kinda means: Red for the happy and upbeat songs but Velvet for smooth and sensual songs. I hate giving props to SM but I think they're doing a phenomenal job with RV.

3. CLC - Pepe

I'm a fan of Cube so of course I checked out their new girl group, CLC. "Pepe" is funky, fun, and catchy! I was hooked after my first time hearing it. The girls are all so cute, but I feel like Cube didn't do a great job creating pre-awareness before their debut.. like no one really knew that Cube was debuting a new group :/ Meh. Regardless, I'm loving their debut song.

4. Lovelyz - Hi~

As the huge Infinite fangirl I am, of course I'm cheering on the newest girl group from Woollim, Lovelyz. Although their debut track did absolutely nothing for me, I do like their follow up track "Hi~". They're just so sweet and adorable... The song is really cute and catchy, but I do have to admit I find Ji Ae's voice really weird and slightly irritating. I mean I guess it's not that bad since she doesn't get many lines to sing, but I feel like when she does sing, it breaks up the flow of the song, especially when her lines are situated near Kei's lines. Kei's voice is ridiculously lovely (see what I did there? haha) and I think it's so nice to listen to... but Ji Ae? Meh. I hate to dislike or criticize them because they are from Woollim, but I have to talk about what bothers me. Regardless though, I do like them as a group and I think Woollim's doing a decent job with them, but I do think it'll take a while for them to really find a title song that will help them gain lots of popularity and recognition.

5. miss A - Only You

I can't remember the last time I actually liked a miss A song enough to download it! Maybe "Goodbye Baby"? Even that song I didn't like much, but I love this song! It's fun, cute and a little sexy but nothing over the top. I'm just really enjoying it right now - definitely one of the best songs being promoted atm... It does make me a bit sad to hear all these rumours surrounding the relationships between the group members, but I guess it's inevitable since there's such a huge gap in popularity between Suzy and the other members, Min, Fei and Jia. :c

6. EXID - Evey Night

I know, I know. This song was released in 2012, and I do remember hearing it at the time of release, but it just didn't strike me. With EXID's recent surge of popularity thanks to Hani's Up & Down viral fancam video, I became interested in the group too. They recently made a come back, but I'm not as into "Ah Yeah" as this song or Up & Down.

7. EXID - Up & Down

Speaking of which.... yeah I've been enjoying this song too. I'll admit it, when it first came out and I watched the mv, I was thinking along the lines of "...ugh... another ridiculous "sexy" concept that just tries too hard and ends up looking awkward..." I still don't like the mv much, especially with all the sexual innuendos (which I know are present in the song too..) but still, it's super catchy and I can't deny that this group is talented. LE's rap was annoying at first for me, but now I think her voice is really unique and interesting. It's funny because that's what I thought about 2ne1's CL at first too, I hated her voice at first, but now I absolutely adore her. Anyway, with the pipes of Solji and Hyerin and the songwriting talents of LE (and of course Hani's sex appeal) I think this group is going to be even more successful in the future. Although I do think they dropped the ball a bit with their recent comeback "Ah Yeah"... I mean it's a catchy song and all, and it is good in its own respect, but I don't think it's as good as Every Night or Up & Down.

Alrighty folks, that's all for now!
Bye~
